Tall Etc, Newsletter
Spring 2008
We Miss So Many of You!
The last 3 months of 2007 were the
worst in our sixteen years of business. We know times are not
great for a lot of you and certainly that is what we are feeling
with our business. Your pain is our pain! Everyone has to do
what is necessary to survive this economic downturn. We have made
changes with our business to lower our expenses. We will still
carry a great selection of tall clothing made just for you.
Remember, Tall Etc. is one of the few places in the world, where
everything is long enough for you!
What’s Spring
About?
Casual continues to be the key to all clothing these
days. Jeans with cute tops, pants with fun tops and capris with
cool tops. That is pretty much what you will find at Tall Etc.
this spring and summer. We will still have some great collections
from Pendleton and contemporary suiting from Ingenuity (the
guaranteed washable career separates), but the concentration will
be on jeans, pants and capris.
There will be dresses this year to take you into summer. We think
our dresses can be worn casually with thongs or dressed up for
special occasions. Most of the dresses today are sleeveless, but
we went to great lengths to find cover up items for those who so
desire to cover their arms.
Of course we always get a
few unusual special items. It is important that you visit us
often. We receive new merchandise all the time, but some items
will sell out quickly, sometimes before we even have a chance to
put items on the website. So stop in when passing by or come over
when you have free time.
Color is very bright and happy this
year. We like turquoise, lime and red as accents and tee shirts,
but you will find every color under the rainbow in our stores by
April. Color will bring newness to your wardrobe even if you have
just a couple of pieces of these bright colors.
Houston and San Jose Stores Closed
So many of our customers travel that it
is important to inform you when changes happen. We closed our San
Jose Store in January. The building had been purchased by a local
business, which planned to tear it down. Although we were not
under immediate pressure to get out, the economy helped us make
the decision to close now rather than an unknown future date.
Our decision to close Houston in
February was based on a similar circumstance. The landlord was
not renewing leases and has unknown plans for the buildings, so we
decided sooner was better than later.
We have heard from many of you
regarding our business model, our locations, our merchandise and
the recent closing of stores. We love to hear your thoughts and
ideas about the tall business. Here are some of the responses to
your many emails and letters:
Tall Etc. is not a huge, rich
corporation. It is run by 2 women who would not be able to
continue to pursue their dream of owning a tall clothing business
if it were not for their husbands.
Only 2.5% of all women are tall enough
to buy in a tall women’s store. That compares to 54% of women who
wear over a size 14. Tall women come in all ages from all
economic backgrounds causing our business to balance the many
different styles, prices and fashions that our customers expect.
Thus not everything will please everyone.
Yes, we will go out of business one day
and it will probably be sooner rather than later. Why? The world
is changing to bigger and bigger companies and unfortunately, we
are too small to take advantage of the lower prices of goods made
outside of the United States. This is causing our customer base
to shrink because it is harder to afford our clothing. It will be
a sad day for all of us when we inevitably must discontinue our
business, but in the meantime, shop, shop, shop! We have enclosed
some valuable coupons to assist you!
